Ollie has taken up golfing. First he and swings and hits a snail then a spider with golf balls. Then he sends a golf ball flying down a gopher hole and a gopher emerges with a lump on it's head.
Ollie takes a swing at another golf ball but he hits one of his clogs by mistake. He takes another swing at it but the ball ends up hitting Jack in his shell, causing him to propel out of it. Jack reprimands him then suggests that Ollie fetch a wheelbarrow of moles to create some holes to shoot golf balls into. After the moles make him a collection of holes, Ollie has great success in knocking each ball down a hole. The moles then become angered and start throwing the golf balls back at Ollie.
Ollie then spies another hole and drops a few balls down it to see if it would be suitable for playing golf. A snake then emerges, with several golf balls stuck down it's throat.
Ollie practices shooting golf balls into a bucket. But unfortunately his loyal pet dog, Sammy, keeps fetching them before they can roll in. Ollie has words with Sammy and it looks as though Sammy gets the idea. But instead of leaving the balls alone, he now fetches them from Ollie and places them in the bucket.
Next up, Ollie faces off against Gaylord the gorilla. Gaylord attempts to swing and hit a ball but he misses on his first attempt. On the second try, he misses again but manages to send sand flying and it buries Ollie. Gaylord then stares at the ball and visualizes it as an apple. The simple-minded gorilla then eats it.
Ollie, by himself once more, gets in some more practice. One ball hits a daschund up the backside, causing it to shorten. Another goes into a hippo's mouth and it goes all the way down to it's tail. Ollie then hits several balls in succession and they pierce several holes in an elephants ear. Another knocks off a lion's mane. He then knocks an apple out of a tree which then splits in half and out pop three dizzy worms.
Two woodpeckers are pecking at a tree but one of Ollie's balls hits it on the back of it's head, skewering it into the tree. He then knocks Rodney's horn off which flies into the air and spikes him on the backside. Audrey is his next victim. It catches her on the side causing her to spin around and her legs drill into the ground. Finally he hits two squirrels sitting on a branch, sending them tumbling down the inside of the tree. They emerge with lumps on their heads.
While all this is going on, Jack and Sammy have sought refuge in Sammy's kennel. They see a ball flying towards them so they slam the door shut to dodge the hit. Unfortunately the speed of the ball causes the kennel to splinter anyway.
The animals have finally have had enough of Ollie's golfing antics and give chase to him. They stampede all over him. When it looks like the danger is over, the woodpecker then swoops down and starts pecking him.
Jack then shows Ollie a safer way to golf. He places a golf ball in a tee then he ties the ball with string to a stake in the ground. Ollie hits the ball as hard as he can and sends it flying. The problem is the string causes it to swing back and Ollie becomes tangled in the string.
Finally, Ollie takes one more swing. He hits it so hard that it orbits around the earth then it comes in from behind him and puts a lump on his head. It then orbits for a second time and the cartoon finishes with the ball chasing Ollie around the Earth.

Well Christmas has come and gone and I'm now the owner of 33 Arabic-dubbed episodes of Ox Tales (or Bassit as it is known in that culture). It's 33 episodes made up of 2 10 minute cartoons a piece. When all things are totaled up, my cartoon count now stands at 72 cartoons out of 104, so bit by bit I'm getting closer to owning the entire series.
Due to the cartoons being unedited and each episode having it's originally paired cartoons, I've now have figured out the Japanese air dates for 35 episodes. Quite a big finding methinks!
On a related note, I have to admit that I wasn't too blown away with the quality of the Arabic DVDs. Although they're very watchable to an Ox Tales enthusiast, the picture kind of resembles a 2nd-gen video tape. Just a little word of warning to anybody who might be thinking about purchasing this set...

I recently found a page with some EXCELLENT factual information as it pertains to the TV show. I found a Japanese web site that contained the original air dates of all 52 half hour episodes and which two cartoons made up each show. Although I had to put the page through a translator which in some cases came up with goofy English titles, piece by piece I should be able to put an episode listing together.
As it turns out, the four VHS tapes that I acquired last year were actually in chronological order (barring a couple of exceptions here and there). Here are my findings so far:

It’s been ages since my last episode review, but I’m about to remedy that with a review of episode 28: “There Goes My Shell” I’m actually going to be reviewing the Dutch dubbed version, so I won’t be able to quote English dialogue. But being the visually slapstick cartoon that Ox Tales is, I’ll have plenty to work with. “There Goes My Shell” is a Jack-ccentric episode, dedicated to the scenario of Jack losing his shell...
The cartoon starts out with Jack and Sammy scaling a steep hill. Exhausted by the walk, Jack takes his shell off and sits against a tree. Sammy joins him but in doing so he shakes the tree and Jack’s shell goes rolling down the hill. They take chase but Sammy rolls head over heels into a bush. The shell then disappears down a hole. To remedy his new naked state, Jack jumps into a bush and covers his body with leaves. He tries to persuade Sammy to retrieve his shell from the hole but Sammy refuses. Jack peers down the hole but then loses his footing and plummets down it. When he gets to the bottom of the hole it turns out that it comes out at a cliff face. Jack seemingly falls to his death but it turns out he lands in the hands of Gaylord the gorilla. Unfortunately, Gaylord mistakes Jack’s leaf-clad body as a meal and eats the foliage off of his person.
Jack then goes looking for his shell by a river. He spies a group of mushrooms sitting beneath a tree and decides one would make for a great new shell. Unfortunately, Rodney the rhino eats it off of his back.
Meanwhile, Sammy fetches found Ollie and alerts him to Jack’s dilemma. Whilst searching for their friend, they encounter a moving clump of grass. On closer inspection it turns out to be Jack modeling another temporary shell. Ollie and Sammy laugh at him as Jack tries to defend his new home. Ollie then tries three other makeshift shells on Jack: a beer barrel, a doctor’s bag and an upturned bucket. Jack gets upset and throws the bucket away.
Jack’s shell is then seen floating down the river. After a few encounters with various aquatic creatures, a beaver mistakes it for a mussel and tries to crack it open with a rock. He's forced to give up when the rock breaks instead of the shell.
Ollie has another bright idea where they can use Sammy as a tracker dog to relocate the misplaced shell. Of course any scheme involving Sammy is sure to go awry…
Jack then spies his shell floating down the river and swims after it with Sammy not too far behind. After encounters with a crocodile and a hippopotamus, an eagle swoops down and snatches Jack’s shell into the air. Jack continues the pursuit by using his tail as a helicopter blade. Realizing Jack could use some help, Ollie propels Sammy into the air by using Edward the elephant’s trunk as a giant catapult. Both friends eventually fall back down to earth empty handed. Jack lands on Audrey the ostrich’s egg and when he stands up he realizes that he is now wearing the egg as a shell. An angry Audrey chases him off.
Up in the eagle’s nest the shell turns out to be too hard for it’s chicks to eat so the eagle throws the shell back down to earth. As luck would have it, it reunites Jack with his shell as it lands on him. The cartoon then closes with Ollie and Jack walking along a field, only this time Jack’s shell is tied safely onto his body.
This Jack-themed episode is a great collection of sight gags. I've always liked the recurring theme of Jack-related shell jokes and this episode didn't disappoint. Well written and very polished.

Yes that's right, I've recently acquired a new set of Ox Tales episodes. And this time they're from Syria! I bought them from the 24Arabia.com web site. They offer a 4 DVD set containing 35 half hour episodes (70 cartoons) for $34.15 (USD) with $13 S&H. They guarantee 72 hour shipping, and when they said that they're weren't joking!They traveled from Damascus, Syria to Purvis, Mississippi in 72 hours. AMAZING SERVICE! Unfortunately my wife is insisting that she put them up for Christmas which means I won't have a clear idea of what's on them until the 25th. But the fact that I have 45 cartoons and the DVDs contain 70 pretty much guarantees that I'll have at least 25 new cartoons come Christmas day.
Now I will issue a quick word of warning. I had a sneak peak at the DVDs and they are recorded on DVD+Rs and have press on DVD labels. The DVD cover also leaves a lot to be desired. But having said that, the main reason I bought these DVDs is because I'm pretty much a completist when it comes to Ox Tales. I'd love to own every episode with an English dub, but right now my main goal is to own every episode regardless of language.
